Boys Varsity Football · Colts Edge The Tigers 21-26

The Canon City Tigers hosted the Pueblo South Colts in the class 3A game of the week.
The game of the week featured the #10 team in the state and the #4 team in the state. All eyes
were on Citizen’s Stadium Friday night. Both teams come into the contest undefeated, with
playoff implications on the line. The South Colts jumped on the board first with a long drive
capped off with a short TD rush. The Tiger offense struggles early turning the ball over to
another Colts touchdown drive. As the first half ticked down, the Tigers found themselves in a
hole down 20-0. A Josh Rall, 67 yard kick return sparked the Tigers final possession of the half
resulting in a 12 yard, Seth Newton touchdown reception. The first half closed with a score of
20-7. The Tigers received the second half opening kickoff with all the momentum. The Tigers
have found themselves in a similar situation earlier in the year against a tough Eagles team of
Pueblo East, fighting through the deficit and coming out with a win. The Tigers offense began to
click early in the second half moving the ball through the air behind Lucas Walcott’s 72%
completion percentage and 3 TD passes. The Tigers put together a few more scoring drives
rendering the score 21-26, only trailing by one score. The Tigers found themselves in a would
be, game winning possession late in the fourth quarter. The drive halts with miscues and forces a
punt around the 50 yard line with 2 minutes left. The Colts ran the remaining clock out and fend
off a Canon City rally ending the game with a close score of 21-25.
