The Tiger girls tennis team finished second at regionals and qualified 6 positions for state competition next week. All of the athletes were in action during the championship round Saturday with state berths on the line. Final results from today’s action:
At number 1 singles Lorin Tedesko won a third place match against Centennial 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-2
At number 2 singles Ally Meins faced the number one seed from Durango and lost 2-6, 2-6 but secured a state spot by finishing second overall at regionals.
At number 3 singles freshman Kenzie Claflin was also up against the number 1 seeded Durango player and lost 3-6, 4-6 but also secured a state spot by finishing second.
The number 1 doubles team of Bailey Boccaccio and Laiken O’Rourke beat the Durango pair 6-3, 3-6, and 6-1 to become regional champs and will be number 1 seeds next week at state.
All of the other doubles teams had a longer path to take to get to state next week due to playbacks but all persevered and will also be representing CCHS at state next week!
Number 2 doubles Averie Trainor and Sydney Sanders lost to Durango in the first place match 3-6, 6-3, and 1-6 but won over the Pueblo West team 6-3 and 6-2.
Number 3 doubles Alli Lancaster and Aubrey Hermreck also drew Durango in their first place match and lost 3-6, 3-6 and like the 2 doubles team faced Pueblo West during a playback. The Tigers took the victory in a very tight match 6-4, 7-6 (0).
The Tigers number 4 doubles team faced Pueblo West during their first place match and took the loss 1-6, 6-7 (0) and in a reversal of the other teams during their playbacks, faced Durango. The Tigers dominated their opponents 6-1, 6-1 to complete their regional play.
Team scores: Regional champs Durango with 75 points. Second place Canon City with 58 points. Third place was Pueblo West with 28 points.
